A sold-out Santos Party House was the setting for Tuesday night’s IAMSOUND Records showcase, as bands from around the country came together for the start of 2010 CMJ Music Marathon.

New York natives Men and Restless People, as well as Michigan’s Salem, got top-billing for the show, which boasted a total of seven bands. The West Coast also was well-represented, with San Diego-based band Lesands performing alongside Los Angeles’  Superhumanoids and upbeat indie-pop duo Kisses.

IAMSOUND is a Los Angeles based independent label that has released albums by Brooklyn’s Telepathe, Los Angeles’ Fool’s Gold and British pop singer Florence and the Machine. The label’s showcase was priced at $14 at the door of the Lafayette Street venue, but by 8 p.m. bouncers were turning ticket-less people away. When Salem took the stage at about midnight, there was little room to move.

Restless People and Salem are performing on the heels of their recent IAMSOUND releases, “Restless People” and “King Night,” while Kisses just returned from a tour of Japan and the United Kingdom. The band was promoting the international release of their new record, “The Heart of the Nightlife,” which is set to hit the U.S. in November.
