Gems Keep Luster in Tough Times

Christie’s auction house, which already has reaped in $3.5 billion sales this year, expects to pull in another $35 million during its upcoming fall jewel and pearl auction. The auction, with offerings that include diamond earrings expected to fetch up to $6.5 million, appears poised to show that the market for gems remains strong even amid a sluggish economy.
