Brooklyn —
Repairs to the Montague Street tunnel, badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy, won’t be finished until next October, meaning another year of headaches for R train riders who need to travel between Brooklyn and Manhattan. But at least New Yorkers won’t be footing the full bill for the project: Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx to announce that the feds will pick up most of expected $260 million tab.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be giving riders on the R and A lines in Brooklyn free service on Oct. 29 to mark the one-year anniversary of Sandy.
