Brooklyn —

When Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti, Joanne Saget, an owner of Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Kafe L’Ouverture, set into action.

She turned the Halsey Street eatery into a supply collection center, putting out the call for everything from toothpaste to diapers to bandages.

With the death toll in the hundreds and expected to rise amid the latest devastation to beset the Caribbean nation, Saget and other Brooklyn community activists are banding for another long-term relief effort.
