Fearing gender-specific assaults and harassment, female transit workers in New York City are finding ways to cope with the consistently challenging environment in which they travel and work.

By necessity, their strategies differ from those of their male counterparts: “We get cursed out, approached, followed, harassed—some people getting physically assaulted. It’s ridiculous.”
