Elected officials used a Facebook Live session to address the concerns of business owners who are struggling to stay afloat.

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce reported that one-third of businesses in the borough are at risk of closing permanently despite two rounds of federal COVID-19 lending opportunities.

About 92% of the 600 businesses surveyed have received a Paycheck Protection Program loan in the second round. That’s still not enough, owners say.

“A year from now, when the dust is settled, I want my neighborhoods to be the neighborhoods that they were—not completely unrecognizable,” City Councilman Justin Brannan said in the May 13 session.
