Manhattan —

The fourth annual American Fine Craft Show kicked off at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center with more than 100 vendors showing off their best work – ranging from jewelry to sculptures, all handmade and all for sale.

Crafts-makers and other artisans are making an even greater impact outside the Javits Center’s walls. The Brooklyn Navy Yard and other borough waterfront work spaces are being converted into small scale manufacturing workshops and artisan specialty shops. The shift is credited by some with slowing the steady decline of manufacturing jobs in Brooklyn for the first time in decades.
