Manhattan —

The aircraft carrier, USS Intrepid, was launched in 1943, during World War II. The craft would go on to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam.

The ship was decommissioned in 1974, eventually becoming a museum at Pier 86 in Manhattan. Forty years after the end of the war, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum revisits the experiences of the ship and its crew in a new exhibit, “On the Line: Intrepid and the Vietnam War.”
