A super PAC funded by hedge-fund managers and the Walton family has spent more than $75,000 on mailers and ads supporting John Sanchez’s City Council bid in District 15.

The March 23 special election has put a spotlight on New Yorkers for a Balanced Albany. The political action committee is supported by the family that made its fortune from Walmart, which has spent millions nationally to back Republicans and legislation to promote charter schools.

The group’s backing for Sanchez’s campaign has raised concerns among his opponents about how he would prioritize public education.
