The Supreme Court has heard arguments in its biggest gun-rights case in more than a decade, one that could lead to more guns on the streets of New York.

Court decisions in 2008 and 2010 established a nationwide right to possess guns in homes for self-defense. Now the court is weighing the right to carry a gun outside.

Gun-rights advocates believe New York’s permit law is too restrictive. But Gov. Kathy Hochul says the strict limitations are necessary to limit violence.
