How waterways could ease traffic generated by e-commerce

BROOKLYN — The explosion of e-commerce deliveries across the city is driving a call to turn to New York’s past for a solution.

The 2.4 million packages delivered every day contribute to increased congestion, pollution and noise.

Waterways that once carried so much of the city’s commerce could provide an alternative to the trucks now crowding streets and highways, experts say.
